Session 2:
Compiling a presentational e-portfolio (3.2)

Objectives

In this session the participants will learn how they can support the development of the learners' presentational portfolios.

Outcomes

After this session the participant will:

• Be able to select evidence from an existing ePortfolio and design a presentational ePortfoliofor given interview or presentational situations;
• Be able to demonstrate an understanding that the content and style of a presentational ePortfolio must be appropriate to the audience;
• Have explored a range of different strategies that could be used to encourage students to select appropriate evidence for their presentational ePortfolio;
• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of a range of techniques that could be used by a Teacher or Trainer to support a student as they design, select appropriate digital artefacts and construct a presentational ePortfolio;
• Be able to demonstrate an awareness of the impact that successful interview or presentational situations can have on the self esteem and confidence of the learner;
• Have developed their personal ePortfolio to include a presentational ePortfolio for a given interview or presentational situations;
• Have explored factors that might affect student motivation and encourage students to take responsibility for the production of a presentational ePortfolio;
• Have explored the MOSEP resources and discussed how they might be used with students belonging to the target groups;
• Developed an awareness of the research and good practice about the use of presentational ePortfolios.

• The importance of being clear about purpose of an interview or presentational situation, including the competencies to be evidenced, audience and style of the interview or presentational situations
• The importance of knowing what evidence you already have in your ePortfolio - possible need to capture new evidence specifically for the interview or presentational situations
• The relationship between the purpose of an interview or presentational situations and the content and style of a presentational ePortfolio presentational ePortfolio;
• Content and style of a presentational ePortfolio must be appropriate for the audience;
• The importance of scheduling your preparation time so that the presentational ePortfolio is ready for the interview or presentational situations

Activity

Now it's time for you to create your own presentational ePortfolio for the " End of Module presentation ". You need to think about the following:

• The competencies that you will need to evidence in your " End of Module presentation "?
• The purpose of the " End of Module presentation "?
• What format will you use to record your evidence?
• How will you identify the competencies that you need to evidence in your presentational ePortfolio ?
• What types of competency based interview questions might you be asked?
• How might you answer these questions and what evidence might you need to have in your presentational ePortfolio
• Have a look at the requirement for the End of Module presentation and design an Action Plan that will ensure that you have compiled your presentational ePortfolio before your End of Module presentation .

End of Module presentation

You will have the opportunity to deliver a presentational ePortfolio that you will have developed during this module, to your course tutor, in a formal interview or presentational situation . You will be questioned, and asked to provide evidence of your mastery of the Module 1 competencies, the Module 2 competencies and the Module 3 competencies (if you have completed all these yet).

The interview or presentational situation will last for 15 minutes and will take place in a room that provides you with access to a computer running the ePortfolio authoring software that you have used during the MOSEP course; internet access and a large display screen or a data projector

Activity

Before you present your presentational ePortfolio , work through the following check list:

• Purpose - is the content and style appropriate for the purpose of the interview or presentational situations ?
• Content - is it clear and well presented, spell checked, proof read, videos work etc?
• Navigation - does it work, no broken links or missing information?
• User Interface – is it easy to find evidence
• Competencies - Does it contain all of the evidence required by the interview or presentational situations ?
  o Is the evidence that has been selected appropriate for purpose?
  o Does it include appropriate evidence that demonstrates the required competencies ?
  o Is the format of the evidence appropriate for the competencies being presented (inc. multimedia evidence)?

Activity

The participants deliver their presentational ePortfolio to other participants and give feedback to each other. Discuss:

• Was the evidence in the presentational ePortfolio sufficient/appropriate?
• Was the evidence appropriate for the audience?
• What did it feel like to deliver the presentational ePortfolio ?

Activity

• Design a set of instructions or a worksheet that your learners could use to help them to compile their presentational ePortfolio and prepare for an interview or presentational situations .
• Present your worksheet to other participants and take feedback
• Consider the feedback that you recieved, revise and update your worksheet
